An Introduction ...
Well, hello there! I’m Barry Nelson, Prosperity Advisors Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®), and I would like to welcome you to our Prosperity Advisors “Idea Factory for Business Owners” blog. I am your Figurative Foreman on the Factory Floor. I make sure things get done on time, on budget, and safely in this blog! I’m going to start this series with my “Why.” Why am I doing this – why am I starting a blog? Why will this be helpful to you? Well, I have thought a lot about this and here goes:
Why do this? The best ideas are sharp ones. Allow me to illustrate what I mean by that. Imagine two kitchen knives on a counter. One is sharp, one is dull. They look the same. But when you cut a tomato, one does the work effortlessly, and the other squashes the tomato. Not only is the work unfinished, but there is a mess to clean up now, too – more work! Ideas are a lot like knives. We want sharp ones, and that requires some effort. And by effort, I mean that we must keep our knives sharp; the same is true with ideas. And with the Prosperity Advisors Idea Factory for Business Owners, that’s exactly my goal, to keep myself - and you - sharp.
Why do this? I am fortunate to have the trust of many business owners. I specialize in helping them prepare for liquidity events. And over the years, I have learned a lot. I have learned that owners don’t know what they don’t know, and they want to know. Make sense?
Why do this? Because I believe in mentorship. I believe in collaboration. I believe we can learn something every day. I want to be a thought leader for my clients and colleagues.
So, what will we get done in this factory? I am going to throw an idea out there every other week or so. I would love your feedback. I promise not to waste your time. Why me? I have been in the financial services business for over 30 years. I am the original securities registered Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) designation holder in the Kansas City area. I have a full team around me, a full suite of technology, and many strategic partnerships in the industry to lean on. I have worked with banks, brokerages, and insurance companies, always focusing on business owners and their families. You could say this is fun for me – because, honestly, it is!
